A Brief Presentation Of The Educational Life In Szekelyhid (Sacuieni)The first written documents about the existence of public education dates back to 1451. The schools were of Catholic and Reformed denominational ones. Those who graduated here were able to attend different universities of Vienna and Cracow. From the documents left to us we get to know moments from schooldays (1530) and some teachers`names like the craftsman Litteratus Emericus (1422) and the deacon Litteratus Blasius (1453). Beside the Reformed girls` and boys` school, in 1768 a new Roman–Catholic boys` school was established. In 1871 a private school was put into function in Szekelyhid (Sacuieni). In 1878 the Izraelite church established a school, where vocational instruction also existed. From 1924 teaching in primary schools went on in Romanian language.Hungarian was only used in denominational schools. The secondary school came into being in 1954.It was a Hungarian one. It was called “Szekelyhidi Magyar vegyes Kozepiskola”-“Scoala Medie Mixta Maghiara-Sacuieni. 1957 was the first year when the school-leavers got cerificate of final examination. The first class where the instruction was going on in Romanian was put into function in 1958. From 1978 the secondary school functioned as a general one with ten forms. In 1989 the general school turned to be secondary school again as an eleventh form was established. In September 1990 the secondary school got a new name after one of the greatest Hungarian poets “Petofi Sandor(1823-1849)” and became-“Petofi Sandor Theoretical High School” (“Petofi Sandor Elmeleti Liceum”). Today teaching is bilingual ( Romanian and Hungarian). The school building is a castle built in late Baroque style and belonged to one of the oldest Austrian noble family the Stubenberg family (1830 - 1945). The high school is situated near the Catholic church, which was built in 1764 by the former noble family of the settlement called Ditrichstein in Baroque style, too. One side–wing of the castle served as monastery . Today the castle is in bad need of being renovated and restorated.
